Winter Waits For Spring: Art Portal #5
A collection of original art studies focused on the small yet powerful cherry blossom. A remedy for seasonal depression. A series for when the cold sets in and Spring feels a lifetime away, a reminder of what awaits.
Blooming in early spring, cherry blossoms often signify renewal and rebirth. In Japan, the cherry blossom symbolizes a Shinto concept known as ‘mono no aware‘ – the beauty of impermanence.
The focus on the short lived nature of cherry blossoms also appears in the Japanese concept of ‘natsukashi‘. This refers to a type of joyful but wistful nostalgia for things or times that we cannot return to.
