This piece is part of Jessica’s series titled “Chasing Rainbows”. These original works attempt to embody hope after loss or trauma. In late January 2022 Jessica and her husband Kyle experienced a devastating miscarriage. Through her sadness, she was able to channel her grief by flipping the often dark depiction of loss through colorful abstract expression. Exploring the way color and light interact in the rainbows formed around her home around the time of the loss, these one-of-a-kind works came to life. The colorful chiffon flows from each piece as an expression of the traveling of our soul’s energy and the energy of the ones we love all around us, the reflective gold elements changing with each change of light and the passing of time. Each piece is adorned with its own written affirmation both underneath the artwork and on the back. In the process of completion, each piece is infused with healing Reiki energy. These works provide a momentary glimpse into an eternal space, using texture and color as an escape from the dark cloud of grief, fear and sadness.

My home is covered in sun catchers and light-catching crystals. Throughout the day you can find small rainbows all over the house. For a while the magic of these little rainbows became lost on me. They began to blend into the background along with a lot of tiny moments of magic in my life. Ironically, when I lost my pregnancy it was like someone turned up the exposure and I began to truly notice them again. Through the sadness these rainbows keep showing up as reminders of what is it at the core of this pain and at the end of this seemingly dark tunnel. Through this loss I have somehow been given an enhanced view of how precious each moment, each color truly is. It is my hope that these pieces are a constant reminder of hope, of starting again and of continuing the journey of life despite everything that attempts to hold us back. Let this series of work bring a spark of light and color to the space each piece inhabits.

“Rainbows introduce us to reflections of different beautiful possibilities so we never forget that pain and grief are not the final options in life” - Aberjhani, Tao of the Rainbow No. 5

”The rainbow is a peculiarly appropriate symbol of the ‘bridge of heaven,’ caused as it is by the reflection of the sun (the self) in the water-drops (Truth) forthpouring from the cloud (buddhi) to the earth (lower nature). When the lower nature fully reflects the higher, then the ‘bridge’ may be traversed by the victorious egos returning to their home above.” (G.A. Gaskell 1844–1885)
